The aim of this research study is to understand how the issue of Syrian refugees in Turkey is being presented by different actors among the Turkish political elites. In the theoretical part, we will focus on framing theory and discussion of the literature. In the practical part, we will use framing theory to analyse news articles in the Turkish media published in English. We will examine whether the statements of different Turkish political elites can be categorised into different frames. This will be the result of the practical part of the thesis. Finally, we will compare if and how the frames differ. We will focus on the period of the 2023 election campaigns until October 2023. The main research question of the thesis is: Did the framing of Syrian refugees change before and after the 2023 elections, and if so, how and among which actors? Other research questions are: Has the narrative of refugee return to Syria been affected by the elections? Do opposition and government actors share frames? How does Turkey position itself on refugees in international institutions?
