Backend of the portal for management of cloud applications and virtual classrooms
Anotace
Abstract
Utilizing the cloud infrastructure for running applications brings many benefits, such as scalability, high availability, automatic backups, and accessibility from any device with an internet connection. However, the complexity of deploying and accessing an application from a cloud has forced users with non-technical skills to either rely on help from a third party or leave the application to run locally …více
Zadání práce
This thesis aims to design and implement the backend part of this portal, whose frontend part (web portal providing a list and information about available applications and virtual machines) was previously implemented in the Master thesis of M. Hořelka. In this thesis, the student will explore different technological options for implementing a unifying solution (based on open-source technologies) which enables the instantiation of virtual machines and containers on different cloud solutions or with different cloud service providers. These can be deployed on-premise, i.e. in a private cloud on several physical servers, or they can use a public cloud, i.e. public cloud service providers such as Amazon Web Service, Google Compute Cloud, etc. Computing resources can orchestrate each other to create more complex topologies for distributed applications. The proposed solution will also enable monitoring the telemetry of running virtual machines and applications (CPU, RAM, disk), to which the designed and implemented backend will allow users to connect (even in the form of a remote graphical desktop). The system will also allow practical courses to support teaching at the university in the form of virtual classrooms. For this purpose, the system will support role-based access control (i.e. RBAC) and granular granting of rights for defined actions over the cloud environment.
Within the thesis text, the student will review and compare the researched technological options for implementing the backend, justify their choice concerning the identified requirements, and describe the solution's architecture, implementation and testing.
