Structural Adjustment Programs were a set of liberal economic policies designed by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank to help countries overcome the debt crisis of the 1980s. This thesis aims to study the possible influence of these programs on the economic, social and political circumstances of women in Mexico and with that, also the influence on the unequal position of women in Mexican society. The thesis explores the situation before and after the adoption of the policies by Mexico while also focusing on separating the impacts of the structural adjusting and the economic crisis. The theoretical reasonings on the Structural Adjustment Programs are based on the feminist theory and world-system theory.
