This master’s diploma thesis studies the interrelation between psychedelic rock (and its lyrics) and American culture of the Sixties. The thesis consists of two main parts. This thesis points out how psychedelic rock (and its lyrics) and American culture of the Sixties are correlated between each other. It sheds light on the mutual influence between song lyrics and society on the example of psychedelic rock bands The Doors and Jefferson Airplane. Providing both theoretical background and consistent analyses, the thesis demonstrates the imagery of American culture in the Sixties and how it was mirrored in psychedelic rock lyrics.
