The diploma thesis titled Narrative Structure, Corruption and Social Class in the First Series of 'The Wire' discusses the role of corruption in the enviroments of law enforcement and drug trade in an American metropolitan city such as Baltimore as presented in HBO's TV series 'The Wire'. 'The Wire' is an intriguing tv series produced by HBO between 2002-2008. The show is a realistic depiction of Baltimore (USA) drug scene, as well as the law enforcement. Both of these are depicted in the show and the main aim of this thesis is to discuss the issues of corruption and social class in the first series of the show, as well as the narrative structure of the show itself. In order to give a deeper analysis of these circumstances and environments that affect and are also affected by the characters of the show, this work will analyse the narrative stracture and both dramatic and cinematic tools used by the producers of the show.
