Comparison of JPA providers and issues with migration

Anotace

Cílem této práce je porovnat tři implementace standardu JPA - Hibernate, OpenJPA a EclipseLink. Kromě tohoto porovnání také popíše proces migrace mezi těmito JPA implementacemi a popíše problémy, se kterými vývojáři mohou typicky setkat. V praktické části bude vyvinut nástroj pro podporu při migraci mezi těmito JPA poskytovateli.

Abstract

This thesis aims to compare three implementations of the JPA standard - specifically Hibernate, OpenJPA and EclipseLink. Except the comparison, it will also describe the migration processes of various real-world applications between those JPA implementation and document the issues that the developers might typically run into. The practical part involves developing an application which would provide a support when migrating projects between those three JPA providers.

The goal of this thesis is to compare different OSS JPA implementations and evaluate possible problems when switching JPA provider in existing appplication. The student will compare features of different JPA providers (Hibernate, TopLink, OpenJPA) and create comparison matrix to show strengths and weaknesses of each product. Practical part will focus on migrating example from each JPA provider to other two. Migrated application should be tested on Oracle, PostgreSQL and MySQL databases. Student will also create a tool that will provide support for migration of theapplication from other JPA providers to Hibernate.

This thesis is offered within the project "Platform for cooperation in research and education with FI MU in data processing", registration number CZ.1.07/2.4.00/12.0049, in conjunction with activities of the Association of Industrial Partners.
