The research aims to study the usage of Anglicisms in Slovak and Chinese, more specifically the work concentrates on English loanwords used on social media. Lexical borrowing as a linguistic phenomenon shapes and innovates the language and therefore the goal of this work is to show that English as a one of the most spoken languages in the world influences the communication of Slovak and Chinese, not only in oral communication, but also in written form in the Internet sphere. Social media as a tool of everyday communication has an undeniable impact on people’s lives, which inspired this work to investigate the indicated area of research. The main purpose of the research is to analyse the usage of Anglicisms on social platforms Facebook and Weibo between the years 2017-2020. My work focuses on the closed groups on Facebook and Weibo dealing with the beauty matters, more particularly on the percentage of Anglicisms in contributions in Slovak and Chinese on the mentioned social platforms, which parts of speech are mostly replaced by English loanwords and which specific Anglicisms are used in both languages. The world globalisation has an effect on the regular use of English, whether in the private or professional sphere and hence, the objective of the research is to find out how many Anglicisms in Chinese and Slovak are in fact used on social networks Facebook and Weibo. The mentioned social network Facebook was chosen as a one of the most used social networks in Slovakia, simultaneously Weibo is these days considered as popular way to communicate in China. The method that will be used for the research is a quantitative comparative analysis, the principle of which is comparison. By using comparative analysis, the research will be able to identify the conformity and the differences in usage of English loanwords in mentioned languages, and thereby contribute to the to the development of sociolinguistic research with a work that has formerly not been discussed by any researcher.
