Continental rifting is a geodynamical process that leads to continental break-up with typical evolution characterized by the progressive alkaline to tholeiitic volcanic activity alternated by short periods of predominantly continental or shallow marine sedimentation and weathering. The Main Ethiopian Rift record all the main different evolutionary stages of continental rifting (e.g.Corti,2009; Ebinger, 2005). There is a lot of geological and geochronological data characterized by distinctive stratigraphic and petrological signatures of local volcano-sedimentary sequences from different sectors of the Main Ethiopian Rift. Most studies have tended to focus on either the magmatic history or mechanism of the formation of rift graben. However, still missing the review that attempts to summarize or synthesize volcanological and stratigraphical information from the different sectors of the Main Ethiopian Rift. The main topic of this work is to gather relevant geochronological and geological data from the Main Ethiopian Rift. Based on these data can be prepared a lot of stratigraphic columns to compare lithology data across individual sectors of the Main Ethiopian Rift. These data will be also supplemented by the study borehole hydrogeological database of thin sections main rocks types from the Main Ethiopian Rift. According this data will be student able to clarification and evaluation of the variation volcanological and sedimentation history within different sectors of the Main Ethiopian Rift.
