Anotace

Tato bakalářská práce si klade za cíl porovnat romány Frankenstein od Mary Shelley a Sní androidi o elektrických ovečkách? od Philipa K. Dicka, respektive jejich hlavní postavy Monstra a Ricka Deckarda, přičemž důraz je kladen na empatické cítění těchto dvou postav a jeho vývoj. Práce definuje pojem empatie a argumentuje, že kolísavost empatie je klíčovou lidskou vlastností, kterou postavy disponují, na základě čehož mohou být obě považovány za lidské bez ohledu na jejich biologický původ.

This bachelor’s thesis aims to compare the novels Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick, or rather their main characters of the Monster and Rick Deckard, with the main focus being the empathic feeling of the two characters and its development. The goal of this bachelor thesis is to analyze how important of a role empathy plays in the definition of humanity and to demonstrate that it is not a fixed trait, but that it changes based on multiple factors. The thesis will compare characters from the novels Frankenstein and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and will follow their respective storylines, analyzing how their capability of being empathic towards others changes. The concept of empathy will be explained, followed by an analysis of both novels in relation to the theory stated in the theoretical part.
