Abstract
The main aim of this diploma thesis is to identify the role of discourse markers in spoken English, as well as to characterize functions of individual discourse markers found in the data. Another aim of the thesis is to find out whether DMs are an inseparable part of everyday communication and which DMs are the most frequent in spoken interaction.
