The use of pronouns to refer back to a previous context, i.e. anaphoric links to antecedents, significantly complicates detailed analysis of texts of all types.  For example, an automatic search for answers to questions in sentences from Wikipedia often has the answer spread "in parts" in two sentences: What is the southernmost capital city? Wellington is the capital of New Zealand. It is the southernmost capital city in the world. Therefore, automatically recognizing that “it” in the second sentence refers to Wellington brings a major refinement to this and other analytical tasks.

The aim of this thesis is to study and describe recent results in the field of anaphoric reference analysis and to implement and evaluate a selected technique for the Czech language.

The final submission will consist of a text part containing the background theory to the task of anaphora resolution, overviews and comparisons of related technologies and a detailed description of the implementation, evaluation and testing, and a working implementation of a selected method for anaphora resolution in Czech.
