The invasion of Afghanistan led by the United States caused profound consequences on both states and the entire international arena. In the United States, the Bush administration justified the war as a "War on Terror", following the 9/11 terror attacks. The consecutive Obama administration sought to end the war and also fundamentally change the rhetoric of the previous presidency. This thesis will compare the political discourse of Presidents Bush and Obama regarding the war in Afghanistan. The research will analyze all speeches of the two presidents mentioning Afghanistan in order to determine whether a substantial shift in discourse occurred.
