Abstract

The present thesis examines the impact of Instagram filters on the body image of young women. It focusses on how Instagram Filters affect self-perception and social comparisons. In this study, a qualitative research approach is used, encompassing in-depth interviews with 10 women between the ages of 18 and 28. The study explored four themes included beauty expectations, external validation, comparison, and Social and cultural perceptions. The study draws on theories like Social Comparison theory and Symbolic Interactionism to analyse how filtered images contribute to internalised beauty standards and body dissatisfaction.
