Abstract
The goal of this thesis is to study the current capabilities and limitations of producing PDF/UA-2 compliant documents from LaTeX, with a specific focus on academic theses using the fithesis4 document class at Masaryk University. Thesis description
While LaTeX supports a generation of accessible documents in PDF format (Tagged PDF), ensuring that the typeset output strictly conforms to modern PDF/UA-2 standards poses significant challenges.
The student will study and document the current capabilities and challenges of preparing PDF/UA-2 compliant LaTeX documents, with a specific focus on academic theses. To achieve this, the student will prepare a testbed comprising submitted or in-progress theses utilizing the fithesis4 document class. This testbed, along with any accompanying scripts, will be released under the LaTeX Project Public License (LPPL), mirroring the approach of the WTPDF / PDF/UA-2 examples provided by the LaTeX Project.
Furthermore, the student will identify and categorize current obstacles in PDF/UA-2 validation. As a final output, the student will compile a feasibility study and a "best practices" document detailing how to achieve full PDF/UA-2 compliance and accessibility for submitted documents, using their own thesis as an exemplary document.
