Due to the migration of families and in the recent years of the spread of covid-19, the connection between grandparents and grandchildren has changed. No longer grandchildren can use the storytelling or participation of their grandparents in their daily hobbies, which are in fact a large part of their memories in adulthood. On the other hand, grandparents feel absent in the presence of their grandchildren. The aim of this master thesis is to investigate how a playful approach can be used to support the relationship between grandparents and younger grandchildren. For this purpose, a video call prototype in Unity will be designed, allowing grandparents and grandchildren to engage in playful interactive activities such as painting and storytelling. This prototype will be evaluated with the help of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) methods with five families. The goal of the study is to get feedback on what works well and what works not so well and to investigate the effectiveness of the application regarding the support of emotional connections and intergenerational communication.
