Slovak Immigration and Return Migration from the United States during the Late Nineteenth and Early Twentieth Centuries

Anotace

Tato práce se zabývá imigrací Slováků do USA a jejich následnou návratovou migrací na konci 19. a začátku 20. století. Jednotlivé migrační tendence Slováků jsou analyzované na základě typologií zahraniční a návratové migrace, ale také podle migrační teorie push a pull faktorů. Práce v závěru porovnává tři největší vlny slovenské návratové migrace z USA v druhé dekádě 20. století.

Abstract

This thesis deals with Slovak immigration to the USA and their subsequent return migration during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The individual migration tendencies of Slovaks are analysed on the basis of typologies of international migration and return migration. There is also applied the push and pull migration theory. The thesis is concluded by a comparative analysis of the three largest waves of Slovak departures from the USA in the second decade of the 20th century.
