The sec-certs project (sec-certs.org) aims to be the one-stop shop to explore the security certification ecosystem (specifically, Common Criteria and FIPS 140 schemes). We aggregate and annotate certification data, enabling unified search, vulnerability investigation, trend analyses, side-by-side comparisons, notifications and other features. However, the current user experience using the web tool is suboptimal in multiple aspects.

Within this thesis the student will help improve user experience of the sec-certs web tool by performing the following:

• Collect user opinions (interviews, user study or both) from both the current project team as well as an appropriate user sample independent of the team.
• Disambiguate the different user groups of the tool, analyze the collected opinions and describe the deficiencies currently perceived in the tool.
• Prioritize the found deficiencies and suggest possible solutions to multiple of them (not necessarily all).
• Prototype solutions to selected improvements and discuss them with the project team.
• Finalize the suggested solutions and in cooperation with the rest of the team propose a merge request (aim towards merging to production if no unforeseen blockers arise).
