Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basics of physical preparation for children engaged in sports, primarily in the pre-school and younger school age range (3-10 years). Students will acquire knowledge about the structure of a training session and learn how to deliver sessions in accordance with the 'IDEAS' philosophy (introduction, demonstration, explanation, activity, summary). Additionally, they will learn how to incorporate appropriate methods of warming up and preparing the body before engaging in sports activities, as well as gain information about post-performance approaches to the human body. Throughout the course, a set of games will be developed, emphasizing the development of fundamental areas of human motor skills, such as coordination and conditioning abilities, basic motor skills (walking, running, squatting, ball manipulation, jumping, climbing, falling, kicking, etc.), and other skills necessary for the overall movement development of children within the specified age group. As part of injury prevention and avoiding excessive physical stress in later stages of sports training, emphasis will be placed on incorporating exercises that enhance proprioception and strengthening of the core.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- understand the importance and principles of pre-performance physical preparation;
- understand the basics of motor learning;
- use a proper warm-up using various exercise methods and techniques;
- design and deliver a training unit consisting of warm-up, main part, and cool-down;
- utilize appropriate didactic principles
- have an overview of various types of movement games, comprehend their potential application in practice, and be able to incorporate these games in both warm-up and main parts of the training unit;
- employ different movement games and exercises that aid in developing coordination, fitness, and fundamental human motor skills;
- apply safety and injury prevention principles during physical preparation and training (appropriate exercise selection, using the principle of suitable loading, principles of specificity etc.);
- identify and describe basic movement patterns/stereotypes, and be able to demonstrate and correct these patterns;
- utilize modern training aids.

Teaching methods
The practical education is conducted through interactive seminars, in which students play a significant role in shaping the course content. Students will have theoretical support within the interactive subject syllabus.

Direct instruction:
- active student participation in instruction: presentation of self-study and homework results;
- group instruction: Students will engage in practical tasks and work within groups during the instruction;
- project-based learning: Preparation of units in accordance with methodological recommendations.

Indirect instruction:
- assembling a collection of physical activities and games;
- designing a specific training unit focused on the development of fundamental areas of human motor skills in preschool and early school-age children (semester project);
- peer assessment of the semester project.

A portfolio is created from seminar-based instruction, which serves as a basis for successfully completing the subject and for future work with young children.
Assessment methods
1. Active participation in seminars (up to 2 absences allowed).
2. Presentation and practical demonstration of physical activities and movement games.
3. Final project focused on physical preparation, emphasising fundamental areas of human motor skills.
4. Completion of peer assessment for the semester project.
