Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to familiarize students with individual areas of wellness and well-being. The subject follows on from the Healthy Lifestyle subject and is closely connected with other related subjects such as Wellness 2. The main topics of Wellness 1 are: biorhythms, sleep, nature.....
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- summarize the important features of the history of wellness;
- characterize the basic concepts of wellness and well-being;
- describe the individual dimensions of wellness;
- analyze the individual's wellness status using the wellness inventory;
- apply components of wellness (analysis, evaluation, recommendations);
- apply the specifics of wellness due to age, gender and disability.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to Wellness 1: basic concepts of wellness and well-being, wellness consulting and coaching, history and present of wellness, concept of wellness within spa and wellness centers.
  • 2. Achieving health, well-being: health-illness continuum, components of health, models of the wellness dimension/life cycle, role of wellness in the family, community, workplace.
  • 3. Wellness assessment tools: wellness inventory/wheel of life - which ones exist, how to work with them.
  • 4. Evaluation of the wellness inventory.
  • 5. Biorhythms. Circadian rhythm.
  • 6. Time management - school/work.
  • 7. Sleep.
  • 8. Sleep.
  • 9. Nature and forest as part of wellness.
  • 9. Hardening.
  • 10. Specifics of wellness due to age, gender and disability.
  • 11. Social and emotional dimensions of wellness.
  • 12. Other dimensions of wellness.

Teaching methods
Practical seminar:
- activation and motivational methods (brainstorming, group work, pair work, work with worksheets);
- interactive outline.
Assessment methods
- the subject ends with a discussion of the semester project;
- compulsory attendance (max. 2 absences);
- active participation in seminars;
- semester project (wellness inventory);
- fulfillment of challenges (sleep, hardening, etc.).
