Course objectives
The aim of the lecture is to familiarize students with the role of physical activity in primary prevention focusing on non-communicable diseases. Part of the instruction is to acquaint students with the application of theoretical knowledge in designing primarily preventive exercise programs.
Learning outcomes
Graduates of this course will be able to:
- design exercise programs in all stages of prevention;
- implement and evaluate the effectiveness of physical activity interventions in the field of prevention;
- apply acquired knowledge and skills in basic and applied research in the field of prevention;
- create basic design and management of physical activity interventions in the field of prevention.

  • Lectures
  • 1. Health benefits of regular physical activity. Negative impact of lack of physical activity on the human body.
  • 2. Physical activity in different stages of prevention.
  • 3. Methods of evaluating physical activity and methodology of prescribing physical activity - adult population, specifics of the pediatric population.
  • 4. Factors influencing the health of children and adolescents focusing on lifestyle factors. Social-pediatric epidemiology.
  • 5. Health characteristics of the pediatric population.
  • 6. Pysical activity in childhood and adolescence - specifics of load, determinants of individual movement abilities, sensitive periods.
  • 7. Recommendations and specifics of physical activity for children under 3 years of age.
  • 8. Recommendations and specifics of physical activity for preschool-aged children (3-6 years).
  • 9. Recommendations and specifics of physical activity for school-aged children (6-15 years).
  • 10. Recommendations and specifics of physical activity for adolescents (15-18 years).
  • 11. Concept and implementation of preventive exercise programs into practice, grants, and subsidy programs.

  • 1. The role of a multidisciplinary team in the creation and supervision of a preventive exercise program.
  • 2. Interpretation of workload and other examinations in relation to prescribing physical activity for children and adolescents.
  • 3. Health insurance programs to support physical activity for children and adolescents.
  • 4. Implementation of physical activity for children and adolescents within the Czech Republic: examples from practice.
  • 5. Challenges in implementing physical activity: injuries in children and adolescents.
  • 6. Proposal of a physical activity program for children under 3 years of age focusing on primary prevention.

Teaching methods
Lectures - frontal teaching style with open discussion on individual topics;
Practical seminars - active student participation, preparation of practical outputs - followed by discussion and peer assessment;
Independent work and student preparation for teaching.
Assessment methods
Prerequisites for admission to the exam:
- mandatory attendance at seminars (2 justified absences are allowed in the information system);
- preparation and oral presentation of a selected topic at the seminar, ability to confront with the instructor and fellow students in the seminar;

The lecture is concluded with an exam:
- oral examination, graded on a scale of A-F
