Course objectives
Students will be able to describe historical changes of main forest vegetation types during Holocene period. They will find differences between natural, semi-natural and synantropic vegetation, with particular examples of main vegetation types, and their historical, current and future changes in flora and vegetation.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to interpret changes of main vegetation types in Central Europe during the last 10,000 years in the context of the human impact and the development of human society. They can address harmful human activities on the native plant species diversity. They will differ basic types of natural vegetation from those more or less synanthropic. They can list main types of nature protected areas and tapes of legislative species protection, considering characteristics of basic types of active management in nature-protected areas.

  • Why does the central European vegetation create altitudinal vegetation gradien? history of the vegetation in Holocene; actualy types of natural forest and non-forest vegetation in Central Europe; past and present synantropic vegetation; endangered and rare biotopes and invasive plants in our flora; Future landscapes?
