- Course objectives
- At the end of the course, its members will understand the causes of global warming and will be able to explain them. In a reduced extent, it holds for climate change caused by warming and altered composition of the atmosphere, for its impacts and for adaptation to climate change. They will acquire basic orientation in the topic of mitigation, the ways to lower emission of greenhouse gases: lowering the need of energy fluxes and covering the remaining need by renewables. We will mention the notion of climate neutrality, used for greenwashing now.
- Learning outcomes
- in addition to the knowledge of this broad field, the ability to edit wikipedias
- Syllabus
- What is a greenhouse phenomenon, how great it is, how it works, how it grows and grows, what it does: Earth's warming.
- Why the greenhouse effect is increasing: due to the consumption of fossil fuels.
- Warming global and regional as the main cause of climate change.
- Other factors influencing this change: aerosols from combustion, landscape change.
- What are the natural influences on the state of the climate system?
- How its status changes and will change the impact of these changes.
- What can no longer be avoided (and we can adapt to it).
- What are the paths for greenhouse gas emissions to cease to grow and then to decline.
- What is called a mitigation. How urgent is this.
- Other (non-limiting) damage caused by the use of fossil energy sources.
- Vision zerocarbonbritain - A kingdom that does not enhance the greenhouse effect.
- The concept of sustainable development, the unsustainability of today's consumption, its moral aspects.
- What everyone can do to minimize their contribution to warming up.
- What can and should do community, firm, state, EU, UN.
- Good and bad examples. Where we are so wasting how to stop.
- Similar to 2. World War - Does mankind defeat itself in front of us, save civilization?
