Course objectives
At the end of this course the student will be able to understand the evolution of architecture and urban design, will be able to explain the concepts and principles of mainly European architecture of the 20th century. Based on the acquired knowledge will be able to realize the environmental context of architecture and urbanism and will be able to perceive the structures that shape the everyday human environment (example of the city of Brno). Students will also learn to combine knowledge from other disciplines and develop the ability to work with contexts.

  • History of architecture and cities in the 20th and 21st century
  • Contemporary architecture and cities
  • Environmental context of architecture and cities
  • Eco-friendly architectures
  • Eco-friendly approaches in urban planning
  • Field trip (Brno)
Teaching methods
Teaching methods are: lectures, student presentations and discussions, individual work with study materials and field excursion with commentary.
Assessment methods
For successful completion of the course is required at least 60% class participation, oral presentation of selected topic and passing an oral exam.
