Course objectives
The course is designed to introduce the basic statistics necessary to analyze data provided by various quantitative studies using SPSS. The main aims are: 1) to introduce the basic notions in statistics - population, parameters, descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, sample, variables etc.; 2) to build and use variables and databases using SPSS; 3) to introduce the basic statistical data analysis methods using SPSS. In other words, graduates of this course are able to:
explain basic notions in statistics
demonstrate ability to build databases in SPSS
employ SPSS in order to analyse data

  • Seminar 5: Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, Ordinal Logistic Regression

Teaching methods
The course will be given in the form of workshops, where both teacher and students give oral presentations. Students are expected to complete the weekly readings prior to class. Questioning, explaining, collaborating, and demonstrating will be used as teaching methods and strategies.
Assessment methods
Conditions for passing the course:
1. Systematic work on and (short, 1-page) written responses to weekly readings
2. Oral presentation in class (10-12 minutes)
3. Written Assignment - Methods Reference Guide (When, What, How) (3-5 pages)
4. Written Assignment – Application of Methods into Students' Research (4-6 pages)

Particular activities of students will be evaluated as follows:
30% - reading, responses and class participation
20% - oral presentation
15% - written assignment - Methods Reference Guide
35% - written assignment – Application of Methods into Students' Research
