Abstract
The aim of the course is to develop the publishing skills of doctoral program students in the area of their research (or the field of their dissertation) as an indispensable preparation for the future academic career. Each student will publish a research paper in an internationally recognized scientific journal meeting specified criteria defined below (see Assessment methods and criteria). The approaches, norms and methods of scientific orientation chosen by the student should be respected in the context of text creation.
Learning outcomes
Student should be able to publish a scientific paper with a clear structure, clearly defined hypotheses and methodology and conclusions. According to the definition of a scientific paper it can be a paper based on their own research or it can be a review of scientific literature complemented by own contribution. The final output is a published scientific article or a paper whose acceptance for print has been confirmed.

Method of verifying learning outcomes and course completion requirements

Publication of a research article in a journal indexed in Scopus or Web of Science. Starting with the cohort entering in the spring semester of 2021, students in fields falling under the social sciences, or under scientific fields No. 5 according to the OECD classification, the so-called Frascati Manual (http://www.vyzkum.cz/storage/att/E6EF7938F0E854BAE520AC119FB22E8D/ Prevodnik_oboru_Frascati.pdf) must publish in a journal indexed in WoS in quartiles 1–3 (SSCI) according AIS, or in WoS Q1-2 according ESCI databases. Students in the humanities (scientific fields No. 6) can publish also in a journal in the Scopus database in quartiles 1–2. (The highest quartile is counted from the time the manuscript is submitted until the Application for Dissertation Defense is filed.) Credit is awarded for a published article (including “online first”) or an official confirmation of acceptance for publication sent by the editorial board. The following applies to all cases: The student must be the sole author or the first author of any group of authors. If the student is listed as the second author, the article is considered to fulfill 50% of the requirement (instead of one such article with the student as the second author, two articles must be submitted; third and subsequent authorships are not recognized). The author’s contribution must also be at least 50%. The article must be attributed to the Department of Environmental Studies (i.e., the article must list only the department affiliation, and the article must be listed in “RIVU” under KES).
