- Course objectives
- This course invites newly enrolled students to join a week-long adventure in the new and unfamiliar world of law and law faculty. The aim of this course is to introduce to the newly enrolled students some of the key areas of law in the form of interactive seminars (criminal law, constitutional law, civil law, labour law, commercial law, environmental law as a practical application of administrative law), and several other highly topical legal topics ( regulation of advertising, regulation of artificial intelligence, fashion law) in the form of supplementary lectures. The course also includes a complementary programme that introduces students to various legal professions (advocacy, judiciary, notary, public administration, academia, legislation, non-profit sector).
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
- describe the content of the different branches of law that he/she will study in the following years at the faculty;
- describe the basic principles of key branches of law and examples of topics and issues typically addressed in those branches;
- read an assigned reading of dozens of pages, identify key arguments, and discuss them in seminar;
- write an essay responding to a specific assignment requiring legal and social analysis of selected issues;
- formulate their ideas and opinions in relation to the topics discussed, distinguishing legal from non-legal arguments;
- understand the similarities and differences between different legal professions, describe the conditions of entry into selected legal professions;
- orient themselves in the environment of the MU Faculty of Law and its information system. - Syllabus

- Veškeré studijní materiály budou studujícím poskytnuty v interaktivní osnově.
- Teaching methods
- Pre-assigned readings, writing 4 essays before the course, feedback on all 4 essays, lectures, interactive seminars, seminar discussions, Socratic method, teamwork, individual work, moot court. This course is specific in that the seminar is taught by students of our faculty at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
- Assessment methods
- Participation in all 5 days of block teaching, submission of all 4 written assignments (essays), active participation in the seminar discussion and active participation in the moot court are assessed.
