Abstract
Course content: Students learn about the etiology and prevention of dental caries and periodontal disease, as well as the basics of oral hygiene and its importance for maintaining individual health. Basic teaching objectives: Students gain knowledge about the causes of dental caries and periodontal disease and learn about the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of these diseases, with a focus on basic prophylactic procedures. Main content of the course: The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the importance of oral hygiene, the causes of dental caries and periodontal disease, and to teach them how to diagnose the early stages of these diseases and initiate effective preventive measures. The importance of epidemiological studies is emphasized, and students are practically familiarized with the determination of basic indices in conservative dentistry and periodontology. They learn to remove tartar, microbial plaque, and perform periodontal pocket curettage. They learn about methods for increasing enamel resistance. They learn about patient motivation, indications for local and systemic fluoridation, principles of proper nutrition, and principles of therapy in periodontology.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students will:
- have knowledge of the etiology of periodontal disease and dental caries,
- be proficient in the practical removal of tartar and microbial plaque and the curettage of periodontal pockets.
- be familiar with the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of initial caries.
