Course objectives
At the end of this exercise a student proves all metric and diagnostic measurement of the eye, which is needed for contact lens application. The student judges and explains choice of appropriate parameters of contact lens.

Syllabus
  • Basic parameters of contact lenses, optical power determination and its measurement at soft CL, hard CL, changing of those parameters in the process of hydration and dehydration. Contact lenses materials development. General requirements for CL material, specific material characteristics. Comparison of contact lens materials: RGP, hydrogel and silikonhydrogel. Development of methods and current methods of CL production. Types of CL fitting - theoretical, parameter selection and fitting of spheric, toric, cosmetic, prosthetic, therapeutic lens. Patient education, follow-up examination of CL wearer. Indications and contraindications of CL fitting, eye damage by CL.Continuous CL wearing, risks. Correction of presbyopia using CL. Management systems of CL.Specificity and effects of drugs in CL carriers. Corneal degenerative diseases.Stenopeic hole principle used in optometric practice. Innovations in contactology, Working with specialized magazine, including presentation and discussion.
