- Abstract
- At the end of the course students should be able to: understand and explain the main methods of examinations in ophthalmology and the problems about the diseases of anterior and posterior segment of the eye; use the main principles of the nurse care in ophthalmology;
- Learning outcomes
- Students are able to independently provide professional nursing assistance to patients with eye diseases.
- Key topics
- Nursing in Ophthalmology - lecture 1st week: Basic examination in ophthalmology, basic nursing care in ophthalmology, "red eye", medicamentous treatment in opthalmology. 2nd week: Cornea - physiology and pathology. Tranplantation of the cornea - indication. Refraction of the eye - basic methods in refractive surgery. 3rd week: Posterior segment of the eye - physiology and pathology. Vitreoretinal surgery - indication, nursing care. 4th week: Lens - physiology and pathology. Cataract surgery - nursing care before and after surgical treatment. 5th week: Glaucoma - types of the disease and basic examination. Medicamentous and surgical treatment, role of the nurse in glaucoma ambulance. 6th week: Traumatology in ophthalmology, 1st. aid 7th week: Causes of urgent loss of visual acuity, causes of blindness, magnifying tools.

- Approaches, practices, and methods used in teaching
- The teaching takes the form of a discussion on the presented problems of nursing care in ophthalmology.
- Method of verifying learning outcomes and course completion requirements
- Active participation of students in classes is required (absence for medical reasons should be indicated in the MUIS). The course is completed by credit. A credit test is required for the award of credit.
