- Specialist for Clinical Embryology and Assisted Reproduction Technology (programme LF, M-EZ)
- Abstract
The course represents the final phase of preclinical practical training before entering the clinical environment. Students further improve their micromanipulation techniques and complex laboratory procedures used in assisted reproduction, with an emphasis on independence, accuracy, and responsibility at work.
Practical training takes place in specialized laboratories on the university campus under professional supervision, with the degree of student independence gradually increasing. Emphasis is placed on the integration of theoretical knowledge, technical skills, and proper work habits, including compliance with safety and quality standards.
Students are required to keep a logbook and complete the mandatory practical outputs set by the course guarantor. Successful completion is conditional on completing the prescribed number of hours and demonstrating mastery of the specified professional skills.
- Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students will:
- be familiar with the operation of an embryology laboratory and understand the organization of its activities, including the sequence of individual work steps
- use laboratory and micromanipulation equipment and handle consumables in accordance with quality, functionality, and safety requirements
- independently perform complex laboratory procedures used in assisted reproduction in a controlled environment
- evaluate the quality of reproductive cells and preimplantation embryos based on morphological and developmental criteria
- apply cryopreservation procedures for reproductive cells and embryos and understand their technological context
- demonstrate technical precision in manual work and adherence to standardized work procedures
- combine theoretical knowledge, technical skills, and occupational safety principles in practical decision-making within laboratory activities
- systematically document their activities and reflect on the level of competence achieved in a logbook.
- responds appropriately to non-standard situations in a simulated laboratory environment
- combines theoretical knowledge, technical skills, and principles of ethics and safety in the performance of practical activities
- Key topics
- Integration of individual laboratory steps into a comprehensive workflow in assisted reproduction
- Independent performance of complex manipulation and diagnostic procedures when working with reproductive cells and embryos under professional supervision
- Cryopreservation of gametes and embryos using various protocols and types of cryosystems
- Evaluation of the quality and developmental potential of reproductive cells and preimplantation embryos based on morphological and dynamic parameters
- Collection and processing of cell material for genetic testing
- Organization of work in the embryology laboratory, coordination of activities within the team
- Solving model laboratory situations with a focus on cooperation, effective communication, and taking responsibility for the assigned work section
- Systematic documentation of performance, evaluation of achieved competencies, and assessment of the fulfillment of set outputs in the logbook
- Study resources and literature
- Bezpečnostní směrnice pracoviště
- Další provozní dokumenty
- Logbook
- Provozní řády pracoviště
- Manuály a další dokumentace k přístrojům
- Standardní operační postupy na pracovišti
- Approaches, practices, and methods used in teaching
- Individual and team practical work in the embryology teaching laboratory in designated time slots. Independent performance of complex laboratory and micromanipulation procedures under professional supervision with a high degree of responsibility. The course also includes cooperation within a model laboratory team, coordination of activities, division of tasks, and simulation of work organization. Systematic record-keeping of activities performed and outputs achieved in a logbook.
- Method of verifying learning outcomes and course completion requirements
- Credit is awarded on the basis of completion of the prescribed number of hours, demonstration of mastery of the specified practical outcomes, and proper documentation of these in the logbook. Fulfilment of the requirements is assessed by the instructor or course supervisor on the basis of a review of the work performed and the quality of its execution.
