Abstract
The subject is created as a theoretical unit. Students will acquire the theoretical knowledge that they will use in the care of patients in the pediatric intensive care units. These knowledges are necessary for provided of nursing care in patients with basic life functions failure. Theoretical and practical knowledge of basic and advanced resuscitation is part of the course. Education in intensive medicine includes the causes, diagnosis and treatment of the most common critical life-threatening conditions in pediatrics.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the subject a student will be able to: - to identify a critically ill child; - to know priority of providing care a critically ill child; - to define and describe monitoring facilities in pediatric intensive care; - to know specifics in parenteral and enteral nutrition in children; - to know and describe the most common critical conditions in pediatric intensive care; - to explain and use different ways of resuscitation of children and newborns; - to describe important aspects of access and care in pediatric patients with severe infections.

The course is carried out in the form of lectures and subsequent hands-on workshops.
Method of verifying learning outcomes and course completion requirements
The course is completed by an examination, which consists of a practical part (basic life support in infants and children - 1 question) and a theoretical part (oral examination - 1 question). To pass the course, it is necessary to pass both parts of the exam.
