- Course objectives
- After completion of the course student: understands elementary cellular processes; comprehends the complexity of intercellular communication and mutual regulation of individual cells in a multicellular organism; is able to explain the difference between healthy and pathologically-working cell; is able to express basic coherence between malfunction in cellular processes and development of diseases, especially hereditary diseases, cancers or developmental defects. Student is also able to apply this knowledge and skills in following subjects.

- Principles of intercellular communication and adhesion. Cell differentiation.
- Mitosis and cytokinesis. Meiosis.
- Cell cycle and its regulation. Cell death.
- Malignant transformation of cells.
- Principles of heredity I.
- Principles of heredity II. Molecular diagnostics.
- Gonosomal and multifactorial heredity. Mutations. Mechanisms of DNA repair.

- two-hour lecture per week
- Assessment methods
- The course is completed with a written exam test containing 60 questions. In one ne half of the test questions student choses between yes/no (without negative marking). The other half of the test questions offers 4 possible answers, where 1 to all answers can be correct (negative marking applies for incorrect answers). To pass the exam, 30 points are needed (out of 60). The test is based on knowledge of all topics from lectures and practices.
Succesfull passing of the courses's practice is required for attending the exam.
