Course objectives
The goal of education is to learn to practical skills, which are needed for opticians. After finishing this exercise a student will be able to measure spherical lenses with different methods, to centre spherical lenses, to cut spherical lenses, to know combination of top and plane facet (Franklin’s bifocal), to know how to fill working card and how to tax medical prescription and anatomical modification of the spectacles. Also he measures and works with cylindrical lenses, he evaluates and practically centers and de-centers cylindrical lenses and cuts CR-39.
Learning outcomes
After finishing this exercise a student will be able to measure spherical lenses with different methods, to centre spherical lenses, to cut spherical lenses, to know combination of top and plane facet (Franklin’s bifocal), to know how to fill working card and how to tax medical prescription and anatomical modification of the spectacles.
Syllabus
  • measurement of spherical lenses- different ways
  • measurement with lensmeter
  • measurement and centration of spherical lenses
  • cutting and centration of spherical lenses
  • combination of blade and flat facet ( Franklin´s bifocal)
  • filling up the medical cards and taxation of the prescriptions
  • anatomical arrangement
  • cutting of toric glass

Assessment methods
1. practice, credit - 80% of attendance, preparing and presenting of credit professional topic, handmade grinding and soldering (in period of 3 hours). 2. A prerequisite for access to the credit is the correct measurement of optical power and other optical parameters of optical correction aids. In the last block of practice, the student determines the parameters for 5 correction aids in a time up to 30 minutes. The credit consists of grinding spectacle lenses to frames according to the assignment, glasses repair, fulfillment of prescription, filliing in the contracts. All within 3 hours (180 minutes).
