Course objectives
At the end of this course, the student will be able to understand and explain biophysical principles and laws; operate basic physical apparatus; evaluate results obtained by basic physical methods; understand the principles of more complex therapeutic and diagnostic medical devices.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- understand the principles and laws of physics
- make measurements using basic physical instruments and process these measurements statistically
- correctly evaluate the results of measurements and critically assess their relevance
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction. Organisation and safety of work in practical exercises.
  • 2. Measurement of viscosity of liquids.
  • 3. Measurement of surface tension of liquids.
  • 4. Refractometric determination of NaCl concentration. Oxymetry.
  • 5. Absorption curve of eosin and determination of its concentration.
  • 6. Measurement of blood pressure. Measurement of blood flow velocity.
  • 7. Measurement of temperature by thermocouple.
  • 8. Hemolysis of erythrocyte suspension by ultrasound.
  • 9. Measurement of absorption of ionizing radiation.
  • 10. Measurement of voltage and frequency of electrical signals by oscilloscope.
  • 11. Measurement of tissue impedance.

Assessment methods
The condition for obtaining credit for practical exercises is the completion of all practical exercises, theoretical knowledge of the tasks and protocols for all tasks prepared according to the instructions of the lecturers. The exercises are completed by a final written test (20 multiple choice questions), the student must obtain at least 50% of the points.
