Course objectives
Students will understand the problematics of evaluating and testing individuals with a different mother tongue. They will be able to explain the current concept of CEFR and a language exam as part of application for Czech citizenship. They will be able to create clearly formulated tasks and questions for testing individuals with a different mother tongue.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will be able to: - provide an overview of the essential methods and systems of testing Czech as a foreign language - provide an overview of components of typical Czech language testing (listening, speaking, grammar, writing, or other areas tested) - develop a standardized formulations of questions and tasks - evaluate written and oral outputs from written testing of foreigners - categorize different levels of knowledge of a foreign language (especially based on SERR).

  • 1. The concept of foreign/second language assessment and testing; 2. Methods of testing foreign/second language proficiency 3. Testing: reading listening, writing, speaking; 4. Categorisation of levels of foreign language proficiency - required knowledge and competences; 5. SERRJ - Common European Framework of Reference; 6. Assessment of the language proficiency of non-native speakers of Czech language; 7. Differences in assessment: Slav x Non-Slav; 8. Specifics of testing and assessment of the Czech language in relation to its stratification; 9. Analysis and commentary on specific testing outcomes; 10. Czech language test as part of the application for Czech citizenship. 11. Exam for permanent residence; 12. Certified examinations for foreigners.tizenship.
