Abstract
The course aims to teach students to use language corpora for their (future) teaching practice. It will be a targeted search for language phenomena at all language levels.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, a student should be able to:
1. explain the structure of the CNC and its importance in teaching the Czech language;
2. use particular corpora of the CNC practically to look up language phenomena;
3. use particular corpora of the CNC practically to teach some language levels of the Czech language;
4. design a set of exercises based on working with various corpora of the CNC.
Key topics
1. Possibilities of use of the CNC corpora in teaching the Czech language – inductive and deductive teaching methods. • 2. Frequency of linguistic data and their use in teaching the Czech language. • 3. Observation of corpus data and their comparison with handbooks of orthography and grammar of current Czech language. • 4. Teaching about variant forms, mainly from the fields of orthography and morphology. • 5. Teaching about Phraseology in Czech National Corpus. • 6. Typology of exercises, creating of exercises and other activities for teaching the Czech language. • 7. Individual formation of exercises and presenting them.

Approaches, practices, and methods used in teaching
A seminar - problem method, controlled discussion on the professional issues of the course. Working with Czech National Corpus. Analysis of founded language phenomena. Presentation.
Method of verifying learning outcomes and course completion requirements
The course is completed with a credit. During the semester, a homework assignment is required. The condition for obtaining the credit is the completion of a written seminar paper and its presentation.
More detailed information:
each seminar participant will prepare four tasks that can be used in teaching at elementary or secondary school: one task on orthography, one on morphology, one on lexicology or word formation, and one task of their own choice. They may use KonText or any other application.
The presentation takes the form of a lesson plan. The student will specify:
the objective they aim to achieve;
the output from the Framework Educational Programme for Basic Education (RVP ZV) that the task is intended to support.
The last two seminars will be dedicated to presentations.
Students participating in the ERASMUS program will submit the presentation only.
