- Abstract
- The course aims to introduce various issues of Czech music culture in its historical and contemporary context.
- Learning outcomes
- The student will be able to understand basic regional specifics of Czech and Moravian folk music, become familiar with the names of prominent Czech composers, gain an overview of the current Czech music scene, and more.
- Key topics
- IMPORTANT: The course is now taught in three blocks per semester. Full (100%) attendance is mandatory.
- Block 1: Introduction to Bohemian and Moravian traditional folk culture, including folk costumes, and an overview of traditional folk music.
- Block 2: Practice-oriented block focusing on Moravian folk dance, including a dance workshop and a live concert.
- Block 3: Introduction to the lives and cultural context of major Czech composers, including Bedřich Smetana, Antonín Dvořák, Leoš Janáček, and Bohuslav Martinů.

- Due to the block-based and practice-oriented format of the course, 100% attendance is required. Exceptions are considered only for serious, verifiable reasons, in which case the student will complete a special assignment.
