- Course objectives
- The objective of the course is taking stock of the knowledge of arithmetic and logic acquired at the secondary school level, including revising written calculation methods and working memory.
- Learning outcomes
- Knowledge and skills in number theory (including written calculations and working memory) and in mathematical logic.
- Syllabus
- Ways of writing numbers down in our and other cultures (decimal positional system, Roman numerals, sexadecimal [60] and vigesimal [20] system). Calculations with numbers written in non-decimal positional systems (especially binary [2] and hexadecimal [16] positional systems). Divisibility in natural numbers (especially the fundamental theorem of arithmetic, greatest common divisor and smallest common mulitple and their use, prime and composite numbers and where we can find them in nature). Basic knowledge and skills in logic, especially in mathematical logic (especially simple and compound statements, tautology, contradiction, logical conjunctions [conjunction, disjunction, implication, equivalence] and their uses n mathematics and daily life).
