Abstract
The goal is to practice the acquired knowledge from the course the historical development of Russian 1. In the focus of the course are the application of knowledge in the analysis of selected Old Russian texts and the monitoring of phonetic, morphological and syntactical features characteristic of the Old Russian. In addition, special attention is paid to the comparative aspects of Old Russian and Old Czech language.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course students will learn basic concepts and categories of disciplines; analyze the phonetic and morphological diachronic changes in Russian; interconnect formerly acquired knowledge from the linguistic disciplines (phonology, morphology, syntax and lexicology) with the acquired knowledge of the subject; understand the work Old Russian texts.

  • 1. Basic concepts and categories discipline. Archetypes and the current form of words. Old Slavonic and Russian language. Identification Old Slavonic words in contemporary Russian.
  • 2. Comparison of the main features characteristic of the East Slavic group of languages.
  • 3. Yers. Identifying weak and strong positions in the word. Tracing the development of the consonant correlation and depalatalisation.
  • 4. Nouns. Analysis of grammatical categories. Old Russian declension of nouns.
  • 5. Adjectives. Declension of different adjective forms in Old Russian. The comparative forms of adjectives.
  • 6. Classification of pronouns. Analysis of grammatical categories.
  • 7. Numerals. Diachronic changes in the development of numerals.
  • 8. Verbs. Analysis of morphological categories. Determining tense and aspect of verbs.
  • 9. Determination of imperative and conditional forms. Analysis of participles and transgressive and their comparison with forms in contemporary Russian.
  • 10. Analysis of inflexible parts of speech. Etymological processes of prepositions, conjunctions and adverbs.
  • 11. Historical syntax: sentence analysis of Old Russian texts.
