Course objectives
The main goal of this course is to explore specific field of mass media communication and its genres, as well as to strength the readers ´ abilities. Another goal is to describe the principles of mass media communication and main composition principles of public speeches from the linguistic point of view; another communicative functions will be Explorer too. On the basis of analyses of particular (contemporary as well as historical) texts and speeches will be desribed the ways of their composition and argumentation, and the extent to which the speaker accepts (or disclaims) langure and communicative or other social rules included. After completing the course student should be able to: - understand the principles of the pruduction of public texts and speeches - identificate specific means of expression of some media genres - identificate strategies of argumentation and to value their relevance - judge the public text or speech from the point of view of the elementar communicative principles and standards

Mass media communication; theory and definitions of some elementar terms (mass media, media communication, communication models, functions of the communication, journalistic style; rhetorical style) 2. Introduction to the theory of argumentation 3. Propaganda and demagogy 4. Political speech as a genre sui generis 5. Interview as a specific genre or political speech 6. Phrases and clichés in the public texts and speeches 7. Contemporary tendencies of public speeches and speech culture
