- Course objectives
- The course offers the basic outline of the development of Russian literature from its beginnings up to the Natural School as an initial stage of Russian realism. At the end of the course the student should have the basic information about the Russian literature of this period on the basis of lectures, seminars and his/her own reading and be able to read and analyze selected literary texts of this period.
- Syllabus
- 1) The periodization of Russian literature, the main stages of its development and dominant literary artefacts (11th -17th centuries) 2) The beginnings of secularization and Europeization of Russian literature in the 17th century; The consequences of the reforms of Peter the Great in culture and literature 4) The birth of modern Russian literature (prose, Russian novel) 5) Literary Streams in 18th-century Russian literature and at the beginning of the 19th century (Russian renaissance, neoclassicism, sentimentalism, preromanticism, romanticism) 6) The birth of Russian realism

- Assessment methods
- Written test in Russian: Part 1: Russian classical literature I (the periodization of Russian literature, the first half of the 19th century - see interactive syllabus in IS + recommanded literature Part 2: Reading of books from compulsory literature (list of required readings, which will be verified at the end of of the semester - see "Teaching Methods"). The test will be evaluated by correctness of content and language
