Course objectives
The Aim of Course: On the basis of the general recognition of geography of population and settlement at the Earth, its factography and its methods - to gain 1) the ability of aimed acquiring of new concrete knowledge of the dealing theme and 2) the ability of synthesis of the said knowledge within the complex framework of developmental relationship of partial geographical spheres - with emphasis on the problem of didactics transformation. At the end of course students should be albe to use informations in regional geography, interpret of basic informations in structure of people.

  • The Fundamental Themes of Course:
  • 1. Geography of population and settlements as scientific discipline - methods of research, literature.
  • 2. Geograpgical aspects of the rise, the forming and the spreading of mankind and human races
  • 3. Demographic revolution,demographic regionalization, urbanization.
  • 4. Global problems of the population, man as a creator and consumer of material goods.
  • 5. Characteristics of population (quantitative, structural and dynamical).
  • 6. Population dynamics, population processes
  • 7. Geographical aspects of the rise, the forming and the spreading of habitation.
  • 8. Demographic characteristics of the Czech Republic
  • 9. Human resources of the Czech Republic.
  • 10. Geography of settlements - methods of research, literature.
  • 11. Geography of cities - historical development, tips of cities.
  • 12. Urban population, development of cities, the definition and conceptual definition of the city, features and facilities of cities.
  • 13. Rural settlement, the definition of rural settlements, rural settlements physiognomy, genetic, morphological and functional classification.

Teaching methods
The course is going trought the lectures (2 hours every week) from basic demographical and settlement terminology.
Assessment methods
The course is teaching 2 hours per week. Examination - oral from literature and lectures. Oral examination: 1. Geodemographic characteristic of world region (50 %) 2. Characteristic of settlements in the region of Czech republic (50 %).
