Course objectives
The subject provides some additional information on linguistics, linguistic subjects and linguistic bohemistics. It provides to the students knowledge of the fundamental linguistics subjects and the terminology (phonetics and orthography, morphology, syntax, lexicology and word-formation and word-building) and pieces of knowledge on special fields (stylistics, dialectology, etymology, onomastics) and on the linguistic and language handbooks and journals, too.
Syllabus
  • 1. Language and linguistics.
  • 2. The structure of the language. Language levels and language elements (phoneme, morpheme,lexical units, sentence, clause).
  • Grammatical categories. Grammatical concepts.
  • 3. Linguistics and linguistic subjects. Fundamental subjects (phonetics and phonology, morphology, lexicology and word-formation, syntax). Terminology.
  • 4. Special linguistic subjects (stylistics, dialectology, etymology, onomastics). Methodology.
  • 5. Linguistics and special fields (semantics, pragmatics, philosophy, psychology).
  • 6. Linguistics journal. Linguistic handbooks (dictionaries, grammars).
