Course objectives
Students will get an insight into the literary trends and movements in the respective period of Czech literature, as well as into the specific nature of their poetics. They will further develop their literary knowledge and interpretational skills with the aim to communicate with a 19th century literary work more efficiently.

Teaching methods
Students will be introduced to the basic literary tends of the 19th century Czech literature, through either contact classes or individual work with recommended literature, which they will be able to discuss regularly with their teacher. Classes will be organized in various forms so as to present different ways of analytical approach to an artistic text dating back to the 19th century.
Assessment methods
The course is completed with a credit. Students will present the results of their work in both written (assignment) and oral form (mini-lecture), thus enhancing their individual style and the ability of critical thinking. The emphasis is put on student´s ability to evaluate a literary work, to compare it in the context of the current Czech and world literary production and to defend their views using precise terminology.
