- Course objectives
- The course objective is to interoduce students to selected chapters of world literature from the beginning till the 20th century. The development of a particular world literature in a certain period enables them to compare and realte it to the history of Czech literature.

- 1. Recommend literature. 2. Old Egypt literature, Assyria, Babylonia, Arabia. 3. Old Jewish literature – biblical texts. 4. Old India literatures, China, Japan. 5. Antic literature. 6. Antique theatre and plays. 7. European literature in the period of Renaissance. 8. Flourishing renaissance. 9. Renaissance plays. 10. English Renaissance. 11. Classic literatures.

- Teaching methods
- In the form of a lecture, students will use and enhance their knowledge of literary trends and movements of Czech literature in the given period and relate it to the specific nature of their poetics. They will be able to identify and analyze the style of outstanding personalities of the literary process of the period in question. They will further develop their literary knowledge and interpretational skills with the aim to communicate with a literary work more effectively. They will creatively use their knowledge gained not only in contact classes but also in their individual study of recommended literature which they will be able to discuss regularly with their teacher.

- Type of course: lecture. Type of completion: colloquium – discussion of the topics covered in lectures and recommended literature.
