Course objectives
On successful completion of the course student will be able to understand basic principles of theory of metals and materials engineering.
Syllabus
  • 1. Metals in the national economy. Metals such as elements of production technologies.
  • 2. Iron-stones and extraction, treatment and production of pig iron.
  • 3. Production of steel - the creation of a steel plant.
  • 4. The crystalline structure of metals.
  • 5. Diagram system iron - carbon.
  • 6. Heat and chemical heat treatment of steel.
  • 7. Steels and materials for highly stressed engineering parts.
  • 8. Stainless and heat-resisting steels.
  • 9. Non-ferrous metals - their distribution and use in industry.
  • 10. Light metals and solder composition - an overview of the main elements and their alloys.
  • 11. Powder metallurgy.
  • 12. Composite materials (materials with oriented structure).
  • 13. Replacement of metals - polymers and advanced ceramics.
