Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able: 1. to understand and explain: general language knowledge - langue and parole, language levels, rules, usage, and 1 2. to distinguish the phonetics and phonology; 3. to explain: speech and compass of voice, classification of the phonemes, phonemes, their variants, phonemic distribution; 4. to explain the relation between the speech and the graphics. The students get fundamental knowledge of language, of the phonetics and phonology.

  • 1. Fundamental linguistic competence. Linguistic disciplines.
  • 2. Linguistic terminology.
  • 3. Czech language and the Slavic languages. Czech language and the Indo-European languages.
  • 4. The Czech phonetic and phonological system.
  • 5. The Czech Orthography.
  • 6. The orthographic theory and practise.
  • 7. The principles of the Czech orthography.
