Course objectives
At the end of this course students should be able to focus the art world in the proper context and to learn how to interpretate the concrete art works. The aim is to gain insight in the relations between the artistic types at different developmental stages - the Greek and Roman art, Romanesque and Gothic styles, Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo style, Classicism, Romanticism.

  • Developmental aspects of the relationship between art forms
  • Types of art in individual periods - Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Classicist, Romantic.
  • Schools and movements of 20th-century art (impressionism, art nouveau, expressionism, futurism, constructivism, suprematismus, dada, surrealism, minimalism, pop art etc.)
  • Artistic experiment, sound art, happening, performance,
  • Relationship avantgard and post-modern art.

Teaching methods
Lectures, theoretical preparation, comparative analysis of art works, class discussion. Discussion is based on analysis of given artistic works.
Assessment methods
Oral exam. On the base of the consulted recommended study literature. Questions of two ranges: the art evolution from antique to 19th century and the range of modern art styles of 20th century.
