Course objectives
The course enhances education of secondary school mathematics teachers with didactic principles for working with pupils 11-15 years old.
Syllabus
  • 1. Special issues with mathematics teaching at elementary schools. Curriculum documents. Methods and forms of work used at elementary schools. Pupils' learning process. 2. Number domains and their extension at elementary school, establishing and creating the individual notions in connection with the abilities and competences of the pupils (natural numbers, decimal numbers, fractions, rational numbers in general, some real numbers. 3. Divisibility in the domain of natural numbers. 4. Percentage, basics of financial mathematics.Ratio, proportion, rule of three. Scale of a plan and a map. 5. The language of algebra, approaches to further generalisation at elementary school. Equations and inequalities in elementary schools. Systems of linear equations, indeterminate equations. 6. Dependencies, propaedeutic stage of the functional thinking development, teaching some elementary functions, related notions (direct and inverse proportionality, linear function, quadratic function in simple cases). Working with statistical data, basics of descriptive statistics.
