Course objectives
The aim of the course is to bring students to international conflicts in historical context.
Syllabus
  • 1. Theory of International Relations. Idealism, realism, scientism. 2. Europe in the years 1918-1939. 3. World War II and its consequences. 4. Germany in 1945-2016. 5. Development in Russia (1917-1953; 1953-1985; 1985-2016). 6. Foreign Policy of France 1918-2016 (Indochina, Algeria, Africa). 7. Great Britain and its foreign policy activities; Internal political problems (Ireland, Scotland). 8. Central Europe after 1945. Events of 1956, 1968, 1989. War in Yugoslavia. The breakup of Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia. Visegrad Group. 9. American Political System. American electoral system. Presidential election. US foreign policy after 1945. 10. Civil war in China (1945-1949). Big Jump and Soviet-Chinese Rift (1958-). Cultural Revolution (1966-70), fighting on the Ussuri River (1969). China and Tibet. China and India. China and the USA. China and the EU. 11. International Organizations.
